April Fools!

I love April Fools Day! My kids are getting too old now, but when they were younger, I loved to trick them with some crazy dinner creations. We’ve had “fish sticks” made out of candy bars rolled in coconut and fried. We’ve had “cake” made of meatloaf and frosted with colored mashed potatoes. We’ve had “chocolate milk” that was really chocolate pudding in a glass with a straw. We’ve had “chicken pot pies” made with vanilla pudding and candy vegetables. And  a favorite because it looked so real was our “grilled cheese” dinner made from pound cake and icing! Here are a few pictures of some of past creations.

“Grilled” cheese sandwiches for dinner, but it was really grilled pound cake slices with colored buttercream icing cheese!

“Pie a la mode” for dessert, but it was really chicken pot pie with mashed potatoes on top.

“Cream pie” for dessert, but it really was sheppard’s pie with colored mashed potatoes.

“Chicken pot pies” for dinner…

…but it was really vanilla pudding pie with Starburst candy chicken, peas and carrots!

Chicken nuggets with honey mustard and glazed bundt cake for dessert.

The chicken nuggets were pound cake dipped in glaze and coated with chopped peanuts. The honey mustard was vanilla pudding with a little dark corn syrup and food coloring.

The bundt cake was basically a turkey sausage, and pizza sauce calzone with melted mozzarella cheese as the glaze.
